Browns Get Pokey; Ravens Cry to the League

Ah-ha, so it’s true: NFL running backs wear those black visor things just because they look cool and super intimidating, and not for protection. Because clearly, you can still get up in there and attempt to gouge a man’s eyeball out easy enough. Just ask the Browns, who (allegedly) poked Ravens running back Willis McGahee in the eye twice on Sunday. ↵↵As a result, the Ravens are gettin’ all tattletale on Cleveland’s ass:↵
↵↵⇥The Ravens reported the incidents by sending tapes to the league office earlier this week.↵⇥↵⇥The Ravens are withholding the names they reported to the NFL. But in reviewing the tape, Cleveland middle linebacker Andra Davis is one of the players in question. Davis can be seen reaching under McGahee’s visor and poking him in the right eye during a tackle near the goal line midway through the third quarter.↵⇥
↵↵The result of Davis’, or the other player in question’s, eye-poking was a cut on McGahee’s lid, which caused him to miss much of the second half. (You can see his blood-stained uniform in the upper right.) As for his current condition, coach John Harbaugh says it’s still “swollen up badly” and that McGahee won’t play against the Steelers this week if he can’t see. Sound medical advice from Mr. Harbaugh.↵↵And speaking of this week’s game, there’s a decent chance Hines Ward isn’t going to make it out alive. After the two teams met last time, Ravens linebacker Bart Scott threatened to kill Ward for what Scott considered a dirty block. Yesterday, Ward had this to say about his life being in jeopardy:↵
↵↵⇥“I’m pretty sure if I see Bart out in the street, outside of football, he’s not going to kill me.”↵↵Yeah, well, I’m pretty sure Ward should stay away from any of the dark alleys in east Baltimore that Scott frequents. You know, just to be safe and all. Ain’t worth risking your life on “pretty sure.”↵
