The Phils Keep Fightin’ and Booin’

↵Phillies fans had plenty to cheer Friday night: a solid pitching performance from Joe Blanton and Ryan Howard’s 48th bomb helped cinch a victory over the Nationals, all while the Metropolitans coughed one up at home to the Marlins. One is the loneliest magic number that we’ll ever know: any Phils win or Mets loss the remainder of this weekend hands Philly the division. And let’s assume Phillies fans prefer the Brew Crew to join them in the postseason, based on a distate for Mets fans -- good news, then, that Milwaukee has the edge in the wild card, with a magic number of two. Ben Sheets takes the mound today against the grins-and-giggles Cubbies.

↵All that glee, however, provided no shelter for Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin. During the presidential debate (and the Phillies game), Palin popped into The Irish Pub in Philly. Predictably, boo birds outside the bar drowned her -- and her supporters -- out.↵↵⇥Outside, the crowd grew, getting louder and louder, shouting “Sarah go home.” Their signs ranged from “Workers Win With Obama-Biden” to “I Can See Russia From Here.”↵↵Hat tip: The 700 Level↵
