Mariners May Be First Team To Hire Female GM

Seattle baseball isn’t doing so hot. Ichiro did manage to become the first player since Gehrig to tally 200 hits and 100 runs in eight seasons. But he also watched the world find out the clubhouse reportedly hates him. And, you know, the team has 101 losses, with chances for two more this weekend.
↵
↵But the Mariners could be due some good press, if this report about a possible GM hire is accurate: the Mariners will interview Dodgers assistant GM Kim Ng, who would be the league’s first female lead exec. Mariners prez Chuck Armstrong explains his thinking. ↵↵⇥“It’s time for some fresh thinking,” Armstrong said at the end of his 23rd season with the team - what he called his worst and most “miserable” one. “We’re color blind, gender blind,” he went on to say. “We just want the best person that we think would be the best person for the Mariners as we move forward,” Armstrong said. ↵↵While the idea of gender-blindness presents numerous problems for everyday life, we applaud Armstrong’s philosophy of open-mindedness. I mean, what about species-blindness? I know a few dogs who are better decision-makers than poor Bill Bavasi. If Ng doesn’t work out (or, more expectantly, doesn’t want to subject herself to that roster), consider other out-of-the-box options. Please.↵
