↵With Florida and Chicago expected to offer up minimal resistance, we all suspected we’d be treated to a Monday playoff between the Mets and Brewers to decide the wild card. But New York’s offense couldn’t do anything against Florida, and Milwaukee’s C.C. Sabathia came up with a brilliant pitching performance to earn the Brewers its first playoff appearance since 1982.

↵Shea Stadium had itself an unceremonious goodbye as Oliver Perez received little run support early and the NY bullpen let things get away in the 4-2 Marlins victory. The Mets only got on base six times.

↵Ryan Braun provided the offensive heroics for Milwaukee, with a two-run bomb in the eighth to provide all the cushion the Brewers needed behind the yeoman effort from Sabathia. It was C.C.‘s third start in nine days, and he was simply marvelous, going the full nine while allowing only five baserunners and one run.

↵The Brewers draw the Phillies in the NLDS. Chicago will host the Dodgers. Over the American League, the White Sox and Twins both won, forcing a Detroit-ChiSox make-up on Monday. If Chicago wins, the Sox and Twins will play Tuesday to decide who draws the Rays. The Red Sox and Angels are locked in for one ALDS matchup.↵
