Redskins Fail to Bask in Cowboys Glory

â†µA few separate pundits and broadcasters mentioned the â†µtheory the league’s three best teams play in the NFC East. â†µThe Washington Redskins weren’t a part of that. But the â†µCowboys, a team some have crowned as the odds-on â†µfavorite to win the title, would probably include â†µWashington in that category after watching Jason Campbell, â†µSantana Moss and friends waltz into Big D and come away â†µwith a shocking 26-24 victory.

â†µCampbell went over 200 yards through the air (with 2 TDs â†µand still no INTs on the season), and Clinton Portis was a â†µworkhorse with 121 yards by foot, averaging almost six per â†µcarry. Tony Romo’s line looks good in the end, but the â†µDallas offense was uneven throughout, with the ground game â†µproviding little and the aerial assault coming more in â†µshort spurts than long strikes.

â†µThe clinching play may have been a bonehead Dallas penalty â†µlate in the fourth. Washington, up six, drove into Cowboy â†µterritory, near the 40. Facing a third down and coming out â†µof a timeout, some Cowboy who wasn’t supposed to be on the â†µfield earned a “12 men on the field” penalty for Dallas â†µwhich turned fourth down in no man’s land into a Washington â†µfirst down. The Skins were able to burn some clock and get â†µinto position for a Shaun Suisham field goal -- a 9-point â†µlead with three minutes left.

â†µRomo took his fellows down the field for a fairly quick â†µscore, and Dallas were an onside recovery away from a â†µpotential win. Cowboy Sam Hurd watched the bounce slip â†µthrough his fingers out-of-bounds. Game over.â†µ
