Eddy Curry Served With Homosexual Harassment Suit? Go Crazy, Internets!

I don’t really know what defines a blog, what qualifies anyone to write for them, or what audience they’re after. I guess it varies from blog-to-blog, which must be why there are so many of them out there. But it sure seems like everyone and his mom wants to get a piece of the hot Eddy Curry story. In case you missed it, the (former) center’s (former) driver filed a porn-ready suit against him, alleging that Curry really, like totally, wanted him.

↵That’s news, right, since it, like, totally happened and is funny, too? Also, it drives traffic, leads to snarky headlines, and sets up months and months of gay jokes. Who cares if it’s straight-up tabloid, and that if it were some groupie making accusations, we’d probably dismiss it as gold-digging. This story has real virtual legs, ya heard?
↵
↵To me, that’s incredibly depressing. Bizarre damages-seeking suit filed by former employees are part and parcel with riches and fame. Yes, the case is officially in the system. But if blogs are really supposed to be smarter, or at least more clever, than the mainstream media, why not lay off of this ultimate yawner until there’s something credible there? Otherwise, we’re like the Post, but worse. And I know that many people will use the fact that said paper ran the story as justification for making a big deal out of it.
↵
↵If that’s what you want from so-called “alternative media,” fine. Try doing something truly new and radical and ignoring this for the time being. Otherwise, you’re embodying everything old fart columnists decry about the internet (right before they switch over to the web themselves), making it a parasitic, facile, stupid, and ultimately useless place that’s glorified gossip for dudes. If Curry does turn out to be on the down low, that’s interesting. Rumors of fluid-soaked towels and some goofy quotes ... that this is what sets the blogdome ablaze is some sad commentary on life as we know it.↵
