↵The color commentary notes that the shadow from Fenway Park’s awning, which slowly creeps past home plate as the day progresses, creates a sort of strobe effect for the batter. Once the ball passes into the shadow, it’s tough to track. Personally, I prefer to believe that the umpire is an evil necromancer who is wearing a cloak that flows a hundred feet behind him. Goodness, that looks cumbersome.
