Via Deadspin comes this very mysterious photo on Cole Hamels’ Web site. Just what kind of baseball field is this, anyway?

↵Barry at Deadspin has a variety of theories on just what baseball field Hamels is attempting to depict here, but I’d like to propose an alternative hypothesis: This is what modern baseball stadiums look like to anyone who played before 1980. To us, they look quaint. To Willie Mays’ contemporaries, they’re distorted, dystopian bandboxes, and the foul poles appear to be about 10 feet away.
