The biggest surprise to come out of last night’s thrilling 31-27 game was not how poorly the Jets’ defense played, but how impressive Dolphins’ Chad Henne looked. The second-year QB from Michigan, making just his second ever NFL start, finished 20-for-26 with 241 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. And sure, it’s still just one good performance, but that won’t stop The Phinsider from praising the new Dolphins signal caller.
Maybe Chad Henne Isn’t Terrible?
While Henne did a decent job against Buffalo in his first career start at managing the game, he displayed some “special” qualities in Monday night’s win over the Jets. He showed the poise of a veteran. He showed the arm strength of a great gun-slinger. And all told, he showed that he just might be the long awaited solution to Miami’s long-term quarterback problem. [...]
All game long, Henne also showed great awareness in the pocket, went through his progressions well, made good decisions, and showed that he has the toughness in the pocket to deliver an accurate ball with a defender bearing down and knowing a hit was coming.
The Phinsider also really likes Henne’s arm strength, something put on display when he casually dropped a 50-yard bomb into the outstretched arms of Ted Ginn for a score in the fourth quarter, but I suppose anything would be an improvement of Chad Pennington’s noodle-arm.
While it may still be a bit early to dub Henne the next Dan Marino, it’s certainly not too soon to say the AFC East is shaping-up to be quite the three-team race. Sorry, Bills fans.
