With all of the infighting between the North American NHL and Russian KHL, KHL president Alexander Medvedev is proposing to create a 56 team superleague composed teams from his KHL and other European leagues.
KHL President Proposing 56 Team Superleague
↵↵Medvedev’s superleague proposal would divide the top clubs into two conferences. One conference would be composed of the 24 teams in the current Russian K.H.L., the other would comprise 32 clubs in Nordic and Central European Divisions.

If this ever came into fruition, it would put to rest any thoughts of NHL Europe but would give European players a better reason to stay home rather than playing in the NHL.
