New Nationwide Cars ‘Pony Up’ To Predicitions

Ha, I just got this awesome email from my contact at Car and Driver Magazine with a link in it to their latest story about the new Nationwide Series CoT's.

And let me tell you I’m smiling from ear to freakin’ ear about it.

Let me explain ... after the jump of course!

But first watch this video and then jump!

On October 9th, 2009 NASCAR announced that it will be changing the Nationwide Series cars to be the CoTbut with a different type of skin on it than the Cup cars and they would be running it for at least 4 races in 2010 and then full time the following year.

Well today Ford unveiled their entry of the new Nationwide CoT and its a Mustang. Yep a Mustang. It even has door handles!!

Cool!

What does that mean for the other car makers? Well as near as I can figure you’ll probably be seeing GM’s Camero and Dodge’s Challenger but as for Toyota you are probably looking at a Camry.

A year ago (September 8th and 9th 2008) NASCAR held some testing sessions for the new Nationwide car and at that time it was reported at NASCAR.com that “the new car type would include Chevrolet’s new Camaro, Ford’s Mustang and Dodge’s new Challenger” with “Toyota (announcing) its model for the Nationwide new car, (as being) the Camry that currently races in both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series.”

I’ve always felt that the Nationwide Series needed its own identity and even have said in the past (even before Sept. of last year) that it should revitalize itself as a a new Trans Am Series of sorts by using Pony Cars and by having a few more road races like Montreal added to the schedule.

Well I’ve got the Pony Car wish (thus the big smile), now let’s see if I get more road races too.
