You know the drill...you ask the burning questions and we give you the answers that have proven to be helpful way more than 33% of the time. First up is Maura:
Week 6 Mailbag
Q: I drafted Tom Brady as my starter and Joe Flacco as my backup. Should I consider flipping that around? Who would you start this weekend? - Maura
A: Maura, not a bad combo of quarterbacks, and it is a tough decision going forward. Flacco has 3 more touchdowns than Brady but also 3 more interceptions. This weekend you have to go with Brady against the awful Titans’ pass defense, which should elevate him over Flacco in most leagues. Flacco has looked a lot more human in the last two weeks, but he is clearly capable of lighting up a defense. Nobody throws it more than New England, so keep Brady on top of your depth chart for the foreseeable future.
Q: I have to make a decision between the Jets defense and the Packers defense this weekend. Which one do I start? - Vince
A: The Jets defense got used and abused against the Dolphins this past Monday night and I am sad to say they cost me the week. I can’t stay mad though. They get the Buffalo Bills this Sunday in New York and preliminary weather reports are calling for it to be cold and rainy. I believe in the Packers defense but they have proven they can give up both yards and points to inferior opponents like the Rams. This week Detroit comes to Green Bay and the Lions just finished up putting some decent stats on the Steelers--who are no slouches on defense. Go with the Jets getting the offense that lost to the BROWNS 6-3!
Q: I have Peyton Manning and this week he is on the bye. I am left with either Trent Edwards or Kerry Collins as a replacement for the week. Who should it be? - Joe
A: Yikes...All preseason I lusted after the possibility of stealing Trent Edwards in lower rounds. Turns out there was someone even dumber than me if you can believe that. I got Jason Campbell instead, which has been only marginally better. Trent Edwards against the Jets in New York or Kerry Collins against the Patriots in New England...not the kind of decision I envy. The weather looks to be similar in both places--crappy. Despite having both Terrell Owens and Lee Evans on his side, Edwards has not thrown for 1,000 yards yet and is under 60% completion percentage. The Bills could choose to go in another direction here very soon. The Titans on the other hand have given Collins the “vote of confidence” even though they have Vince Young ready to try and start his comeback. I guess you go with the veteran hoping to get back on track and start Kerry Collins. The good news: Peyton will be back to doing his thing in a week.
