This morning, everyone’s favorite fake newspaper (with the possible exception of The Sports Pickle) The Onion took a satirical shot at Major League Baseball’s semi-exploitation of the Angels’ relationship with their fallen teammate, Nick Adenhart. The story read:
Maybe The Angels Read The Onion
↵↵BOSTON—Several questions into a postgame press conference Sunday, it became increasingly clear that Los Angeles Angels players had forgotten they dedicated the 2009 season to deceased teammate Nick Adenhart. “Oh my God, that’s right,” Angels pitcher John Lackey said after his team’s victory over the Boston Red Sox. “Now that you mention it, yes, I do vaguely remember pitching in Nick’s memory in April. Anyway, yeah, I guess this one was for Nick then.”
↵↵You get the point. Anyway, maybe the Angels read the Onion after all; they were down 3-0 to the Yankees before mounting a Vlad Guerrero-punctuated comeback that put them ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth. It’s now 4-4, thanks to a Jorge Posada home run. In fact, all four of the Yankees’ scores have come on solo home runs. Typical Yankees. No teamwork at all.
