Angels catcher Jeff Mathis just made the game-winning double in a must-win ALCS Game 3. Mathis is something of an unlikely candidate for this, seeing as his offensive line in 2009 was a mere .211/.288/.308. This is not very good at all. I'm not sure I agree with any of it -- no one with an OPS under .600 is anyone's most valuable player -- but tonight, none of that matters. For at least one night, Jeff Mathis is a fearsome slugger.
