On an evening when the New York Rangers were debuting highly touted young defenders, it was the Penguins own Alex young blueliner that stole the show. Although both Matt Gilroy and Michael Del Zotto appeared comfortable in their first NHL game, Goligoski paced Pittsburgh's attack with two assists in just over 18 minutes of ice.

Tyler Kennedy, Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby all scored for the Pengins while Chris Drury and Marian Gaborik replied for the Rangers. It wasn't all bad news for Rangers fans, though - not only did Gaborik score, he led all skaters with eight shots on net. In addition, Matt Gilroy played almost 20 minutes and posted a +2 rating in his debut.
