Cincinnati QB Tony Pike might play Saturday against Louisville. Then again he might need surgery. Despite the fact that he was in practice today for the No. 5 Bearcats, no decision has been made and his status remains up in the air.
Pike broke his left forearm last season and has a plate and six screws in it. The plate moved when he was hit in the first half against South Florida. He tried to play one series in the second half before giving way to Zach Collaros.
Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly said he would let Pike practice and then make a decision on his status closer to the game.
Collaros covered for Pike quite well against South Florida. Since Cincy plays an empty backfield set with Pike, coach Brian Kelly wants to make sure his QB can protect himself. Given that the Cardinals present far less of a threat than the Bulls did, there might be good reason to consider keeping Pike off the field for the time being.
