Shortly before kickoff of Week 6 on Sunday, Chris Mortensen reported that the Lions are worried that Matthew Stafford’s knee may require sugery, and that the team was sending his MRI results to — DUN DUN DUUUNNNN — Dr. James Andrews.
Stafford, Lions Call Talks Of Knee Surgery ‘Rumors’
On Monday, Stafford and the team played it off, saying they aren’t concerned:
General manager Martin Mayhew dismissed that as “gossip,” and Stafford said he was not worried about surgery. […]
Asked if the injury could be serious enough to keep him out for the season, Stafford said: “No. Not as of right now at all. And I heard also that apparently I’m in Birmingham right now talking to Dr. Andrews, getting surgery tomorrow, which also isn’t true.”
So talk that his season is in jeopardy is nothing he has heard himself?
“That’s nothing that anybody’s telling me, for sure,” Stafford said.
Given all of that dismissing of surgery talk, the team still doesn’t know when Stafford may be back at practice.
