Per the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler just got paid. Like, really, really paid:
Jay Cutler Signs Big Money Extension With Bears
Jay Cutler agrees to two year contract extension with Bears good through 2013. An NFL network/nfl.com exclusive. [...] Jay cutler's deal includes $20 million in guaranteed money and roughly $30 million in new money. We'll continue to report it on NFLNetwork
There's not much mystery here: Jay Cutler is without question the best Bears quarterback the franchise has seen in decades. Even with two ugly games under his belt -- a Week 1 four-interception mess against the Packers and this Sunday's turnover-heavy loss to the Falcons -- Bears fans would concur. And if you think Bears fans swoon over quality quarterbacking, it's not much different in the front office. Everybody loves Jay.
Whether Cutler is worth this much money is probably up for debate, but this is the way of the NFL in the year 2009. Good quarterbacks get paid. They get paid lots. Like we said, not much mystery here.
