At around 8:30pm Eastern last night Josh Koscheck posted the following Twitter update:
Josh Koscheck To Co-Headline UFC 106
I got some big fight news for me. I am fighting nov 21 in Vegas. Co main event!!! Haha it's on baby!!!!
This led most MMA websites to speculate that his opponent would be Matt Hughes as he was the only name in the Welterweight division that wasn’t tied up in another fight but was able to handle a co-headline spot. However Sherdog.com is reporting that it will be Josh Koscheck vs. Anthony Johnson:
Josh Koscheck and Anthony Johnson have verbally agreed to fight each other at UFC 106 on Nov. 21 in Las Vegas, Sherdog.com has learned from a source close to the bout.
This all comes, of course, in the wake of Brock Lesnar’s illness forcing the UFC to reschedule his title defense from UFC 106 to 108. Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin slid into the main event slot and now Koscheck vs. Johnson wil be the featured undercard bout.
Josh Koscheck is coming off a dominant TKO victory over Frank Triff at UFC 103 and is a consensus top 5 welterweight. Anthony Johnson fought this past Saturday on the UFC 104 card where he destroyed Yoshiyuki Yoshida, he did miss weight for the bout by a whopping five pounds though. Johnson claimed that the weight issues were due to a bad cut following gaining weight after a knee injury forced him out of training.
It is fair to assume that Johnson is taking a fight on short notice and a short time after his last fight in the interest of making amends with the promotion for missing weight.
