Tonight’s special World Series performance: Jay-Z and Alicia Keys performing (what else) “Empire State of Mind.” It’s a fantastic song, and it was a pretty cool performance, and Jay-Z got to live his dream, which was presumably to play before a Yankees World Series game, so everyone wins. Only one thing: Fox’s sound system was capturing the stadium noise, which, combined with the up-close sound coming from Jay-Z’s microphone, made the whole thing incredibly echo-y. Cool, but also impossible to hear.
Jay-Z’s World Series Performance Enjoyable, Echo-y
↵Anyway, Derek Jeter seemed to enjoy it; Fox’s cameras caught him awkwardly nodding his head from side to side, until Jeter caught Fox catching them and felt immediately embarrassed. It was the first semi-interesting, non-baseball thing Derek Jeter has done in a decade, and Fox caught him doing it. I guess we’ll wait another 10 years.
