This week I scour the waiver wire to find a guy that I know little about but think has the chance to bust loose for a huge game or two between now and the end of the season.
Flash In The Pan Alert: Justin Forsett
Justin Forsett, RB SEA
At 5’8”, Forsett can get lost behind his offensive line very easily. His diminutive stature may very well dictate a short shelf life for this running back, but he seems to be one of those guys that can straight-up play. The offensive line in Seattle is a bit of a debacle right now, with Walter Jones reportedly done not only for the season, but possibly forever. Julius Jones is putting up paltry numbers, and that offense is in dire need of a shot in the arm. Enter Forsett, a speedy back that is averaging 6.6 yards per touch (he has 28 touches this year, 2 carries for 4 yards last week.) Matt Hasselbeck is great at setting up the screen and he is smart enough to use a back like this in the flat as well.
In a telling move, the Seahawks have signed Louis Rankin from their practice squad. He is a running back who factors in the kick return game. This could spell a lesser role for Forsett on special teams and a greater role for him on offense.
If that is the case, Forsett is a guy who could blow up in a week where the defense is not prepared for what he brings to the Seahawks’ offense. I would expect his impact to decrease as defensive coordinators plot to contain him, but if you are looking for a fantasy gamble to get you back in your league, add this guy and roll the dice!
