“We were going to face this whether it’s Erik Cole or whoever over the course of the year,” Canes coach Paul Maurice said today. “We can’t replace him. But it all goes back to we talked about depth in the summer and adding guys, andwe feel we have enough players to play with a strong offensive game.
“Yes, we’re going to miss Erik and certainly his speed. But Eric Staal has been a good player without him and we still expect Eric to be able to perform.”

The Hurricanes have suffered a big loss in their season with the injury to Erik Cole, but they should be able to recover. The Hurricanes traded for Cole at the trade deadline so this team has played without him before and should be able to handle the twenty or so games without him. Even so, at least it happened early rather than heading into the playoffs.
