With this season occurring during the Olympics in Vancouver, the debate has raged on whether the NHL will allow players to participate in the 2014 Sochi Olympics. One of those commentators in the debate is now Alexander Ovechkin’s mother:
Ovechkin’s Mother Weighs In On Sochi Debate
↵↵“How can [Commissioner Gary] Bettman not let them play?” fumed Ovechkin’s mother, Tatyana, in a recent conversation with me. “Doesn’t he understand what Olympics are? Let him read books! Let him study history! They stopped wars in ancient Greece for the Olympics. Wars! And he can’t stop his league for two weeks? This is nonsense!”
↵↵Ovechkin’s mother is a former Olympian herself so her point of view makes sense. Besides, the first person that tells her that her son can’t play is going to have to deal with a scorned mother and hell hath no fury of a scorned mother.
