Oft-injured Hurricanes' forward, Erik Cole will be out 4-6 weeks, according to the Canes' Country blog. Cole suffered a broken bone in his left leg after colliding with Dennis Wideman of the Bruins in the Canes' Saturday night game.
Canes’ Erik Cole to Miss 4-6 Weeks
Canes’ Country also offers some insight into what the Hurricanes should do to fill the void left by Cole’s injury. Although talented youngsters, Brandon Sutter, Zack Boychuk, and Drayson Bowman are all NHL-ready, Canes’ Country believes they should be left in Albany to develop chemistry for the future. Instead, Scott Walker is expected to shift into Cole’s spot on the top line with Tim Conboy filling out the forward core.
Of course, after failing to score in their opener against the Flyers and getting blown out 7-2 by the Bruins, the future may be coming sooner rather than later for the Hurricanes, who are expected to contend for a playoff spot in the East but won’t have a chance if their play in the first two games becomes a trend. A Tuesday night home-ice tilt with predicted bottom-dwelling Tampa Bay should provide the Canes’ a chance to right the ship. If not, some personnel changes might be necessary to jump-start the team.
