↵In Toronto, Jonas “The Monster” Gustavsson is getting the start tonight against the Cancuks, replacing Vesa Toskala who looked incredibly shakey against the Capitals, conceding three goals on just eight shots.
↵In Washington, playoff-sensation Semyon Varlamov is getting the nod for a tough road test against the Flyers tonight. Varlamov is currently in a time-share with veteran Jose Theodore, but has a chance tonight to make a strong claim on the top spot.
↵Interestingly enough, Varlamov and Gustavsson have been tabbed by pundits as potential Calder Trophy candidates (NHL Rookie of the Year). That’s a tall order given last year’s winner, Columbus goaltender Steve Mason, posted 10 shutouts and made saves like these (the saves start 20 seconds into the video):
