Tony Fein, an undrafted linebacker who played for the Baltimore Ravens in the preseason, collapsed at a friend's house in Washington state and died of unexplained causes. He was found unconscious and barely breathing just before 9 a.m. PDT on Tuesday, and went into cardiac arrest while being driven to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, Wash.
Former Ravens Rookie Dies Suddenly
The Associated Press reports:
A man and woman who were present described Fein as a friend who was staying with them. They told the aid crew they awoke to find him unresponsive and vomiting.
“They didn’t really give us a lot of information about what had happened the night before,” apparently because they were upset, Wernet said. “They didn’t indicate anything out of the ordinary.”
There were no obvious wounds or signs of alcohol or other drug abuse, and nothing indicated foul play, he added.
Fein was released by the Ravens during the team’s last round of cuts on Sept. 5. The 27-year-old was an Iraq War veteran who played two seasons at Ole Miss after transferring from Scottsdale Community College in Arizona.
Fein was also arrested on Aug. 23 for misdemeanor assault when an officer reportedly mistook his cell phone for a gun, but the prosecutors had planned to dismiss the trial due to conflicting witness reports.
