Cole Hamels gave up four earned runs in 5 innings today in Game 2 of the NLDS. Not real good numbers, right? Well, it turns out he may have been a little distracted. See, Cole’s wife Heidi is pregnant, nine months pregnant, and during the game she apparently went into labor. Once he was removed from the game (for ineffectiveness), Hamels left for the hospital:
Cole Hamels May Have Been Distracted Today
↵↵Cole Hamels has left the ballpark to be with his wife, who is currently in labor.
↵↵Now, that is not an excuse for him pitching poorly, but I think I’d be a little distracted too. (To be fair, watching the game he did not look awful, just made a couple of poor pitches and paid for them.) It’s been an interesting day for Phillies pitching, as J.A. Happ had to leave the game with an injury after just one batter. Hamels is on the hook for the loss right now, as the Phillies trail the Rockies 5-3 in the top of the 8th.
