Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Has Cancer

Early Tuesday morning, NBA Hall-of-Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar announced that he has a form of cancer, having been diagnosed nearly a year ago. From People Magazine:

↵↵“Having lost one of my closest friends to a different, highly aggressive form of leukemia, I knew how serious my diagnosis was,” said Abdul-Jabbar, 62. “My own life expectancy became a question mark.”

↵“I’m telling my story to encourage fellow patients to take charge of their health,” he said. “Work closely with your doctor, monitor your disease and, above all, take your medicine.”

↵↵The exact diagnosis for Kareem is “Chronic Myeloid Leukemia,” and with treatment, he’s expected to make a full recovery, which is pretty awesome news. Jabbar is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer with 38,387 points and an assistant with the L.A. Lakers, but who are we kidding? He’s best known for this:

↵Roger, Roger. What’s our vector, Victor? Oh, and get well soon, Kareem. We’re pullin for ya.
