Via Casual Hoya, a look at Las Vegas’ national title odds reveals Kansas (4:1), Michigan State (6:1), Texas (7:1) and Kentucky (8:1) as the favorites to cut down the nets in Indianapolis. Four fine teams, sure, but let’s be real: there’s no get-rich-quick with odds like those. If we’re gonna gamble, then let’s gamble, right?
Vegas: Jayhawks, Spartans Favorites To Win Title
↵Right. Which is why if we were to throw $100 down, we’d got for the big bucks and lay it down on one of these two to win it all:
↵Georgetown (60:1) Are we missing something here, or is it crazy that a core of Greg Monroe, Austin Freeman, and Chris Wright, joined by incoming stud Hollis Thompson, is getting such long odds to cut down the nets? Forget the departure of Summers: the Hoyas will be a more cohesive team without him, and if Monroe takes the big step forward he’s capable of, this is gonna be a nasty team no one wants to play in March.
↵Minnesota (40:1) Size? Check: the Gophers feature twin towers Ralph Sampson III and Colton Iverson. Experience? Yup: Minnesota loses just one starter from a year ago. Depth? Of course: It’s Tubby Smith, whose trio of incoming freshmen -- led by the explosive Royce White (6-8, 240) -- are all going to play, and play well. If by March the Gophers guard play is as strong an asset as their frontcourt is sure to be, they’ll be dangerous.
↵UPDATE: Yeah, about Royce White: Front and center over at The Daily Gopher is a link to a news report that Minnesota’s star freshman is a suspect in a campus burglary -- this, following his October arrest for shoplifting and assault, for which he was already suspended indefinitely.
