Hornets GM Jeff Bower will replace Byron Scott as the team’s head coach, according to TNT’s David Aldridge. Bower previously served as an assistant coach for the Hornets under Paul Silas and Tim Floyd, but had worked as the team’s GM since 2005.
Hornets GM Bower To Coach, Tim Floyd Coming Back As Assistant
ESPN’s Ric Bucher reports that Bower will bring back Floyd — who was last seen trying his hand at diplomacy during a casino brawl, after resigning last year amid allegations of improprieties at USC — as an assistant coach. The Hornets will reportedly also retain assistant coaches Charlie Parker, Robert Pack, and Rob Werdann.
Prior to the announcement that Bowers would fill in as head coach, SBN’s Hornets blog, At The Hive, chimed in with this handy little chart about who they thought the team should pursue:
Is it good that At The Hive provided this disclaimer:
Jeff Bower is on there as a joke if Shinn makes him clean up his own mess a la the Timberwolves
No, no it is not. Although to be fair, the Hornets did net two names on that list, with Bowers taking over as head coach and Tim Floyd coming back as an assistant. That arrangement may turn out to be little more than a way to make Floyd the de facto head coach, as the Hornets management may have figured that their beleaguered fan base might not welcome back a retread like Floyd as the official head coach.
