Forbes has released it’s annual list of NHL franchise values, and the Toronto Maple Leafs once again top the list. The Leafs at $470 million are worth more than twice the amount of the 10th most valuable franchise, the New Jersey Devils at $223 million. The Leafs have also not made the playoffs since 2004 and have sat at the bottom of the NHL standings for much of the season.
Toronto Maple Leafs The NHL’s Most Valuable Franchise
↵Not so good news for some of the NHL’s southern teams, with the Phoenix Coyotes ($138 million), Atlanta Thrashers, Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators all coming in in the bottom five.

However, this isn’t proof that a southern franchise cannot flourish in the NHL; the Dallas Stars, 8th in the NHL, are worth $246 million, while the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks are also in the top 15 in value as well.
