Quarterbacks
Mark Sanchez: Sanchez has shown he is inconsistent, but at home against a bad Jacksonville pass defense coming off a bye I believe he can have a solid game. It helps that Jerricho Cotchery is healed up. Add him to Braylon Edwards and Dustin Keller and Sanchez has a decent amount of weapons.
Brett Favre: Yes, this is a bit of a no-brainer, but you could be thinking that we may just see Purple Jesus doing his thing over and over until the Lions are a puddle of nothing, but Favre has shown that he still has it and Detroit is actually a little worse statistically at defending the pass than defending the run. It should be a balanced attack, just hope they don’t get up by 30 by halftime.
Running Backs
Ricky Williams: He’s still got it and Tampa Bay doesn’t, at least on defense. We should see a heavy dose of Williams and Brown with each getting enough stats to be worth a start. Take every running back in a good rushing offense against the third worst rushing defense.
Jamaal Charles: I’ve been hearing a lot about Kolby Smith, but I think Charles is the superior runner, and that will show against Oakland. If you are in a ppr league he is a must start. Smith may get the goal line carries, but Charles will be more productive.
Wide Receivers
Jerricho Cotchery: Football Outsiders has the Jaguars as the worst pass defense against #2 wide receivers. Add to that Cotchery should be healed up and Braylon Edwards has looked good enough to draw safety help and you have a recipe for a nice game.
Percy Harvin: Detroit’s pass defense is horrid. I’d start Berrian and Rice as well. I believe Harvin will get his chances and that’s all he needs to break a big one.
Sit Down!
Quarterbacks:
David Garrard: This also may be a no-brainer, but Garrard can give you a good fantasy game every other game, but it doesn’t look like he has any chance against the Jets. His best receiver will be matched up with Darelle Revis and Garrard has thrown a total of zero touchdown passes on the road this season.
Matt Ryan: Ryan has been in interception mode as of late and going against a tough Carolina pass defense isn’t going help that trend. Michael Turner should be able to pound the rock all day while Ryan sits back and watches.
Running Backs
Kevin Smith: Smith has been banged up recently and facing the Minnesota defensive line isn’t going to help him any. I had high hopes for Smith this year, but he just doesn’t seem right and he’s not going to get right against Minnesota.
Cedric Benson: Do you sit him if your other running backs are time share backs? No, but Benson is going up against the best run defense in the league in their home stadium. Benson has been too good this year to just sit out of hand, but if you have better options, go for it.
Wide Receivers
Mike Sims-Walker: Like I said while discussing David Garrard’s ineptitude, Darelle Revis should be covering Sims-Walker, couple that with Garrard’s zero touchdown passes on the road and it is hard to start him in New York.
Jeremy Maclin: The Chargers have been tough on #2 receivers this year and with the Eagles traveling across country they might not be sharp, and a dull McNabb makes for a dull passing game.
