UFC 108 Fight Announcement: Sean Sherk v. Rafaello Olivera

Wisconsin Combat Sports spoke to Sean Sherk who passed along word of his next fight:

“I’m fighting January 2 against Rafaello Oliveira,” said Sherk. “I haven’t studied him yet, but I know he has fought my training partner Nick Lentz in Dallas. Lentz beat him, and he’s been able to give me some good advice on him.”

January 2 is the UFC 108 fight card in Las Vegas. Sherk sits comfortably at #10 in the world at 155 pounds in the USA Today / SB Nation Consensus Rankings. He is coming off of a shoulder injury which could explain the unexpectedly soft opponent.

Not to take anything away from Oliveira but he was beaten by Lentz who isn’t quite the caliber of Sherk, a former UFC champion. Some would even say that this is a sign that the promotion has given up on him and they are simply using him to get Sherk an “easy” recovery victory.

But, then again, fights are not settled on paper and if Sherk isn’t careful Olivera does have the ground skills to submit him.

SBNation.com will have more information on UFC 108 as it becomes available.
