NFL Week 10 Footnotes
- The Cincinnati Bengals are for real, and that in itself is news. For the first time in franchise history, the Bengals have won five straight road games -- leaving the Ravens, the Texans and (astoundingly) the Lions, who have been around forever, as the only remaining teams to never win five straight away games.
- Both New Orleans and Indianapolis moved to 9-0 on Sunday, though the Colts’ win could be argued as a gift. Either way, this is only the third time in NFL history in which there are two teams, nine games in, that have perfect records. The previous occurrences came in 1934 (with the Lions and Bears) and the 1990 (with the 49ers and Giants).
- Titans prodigy Chris Johnson became just the second player in team history to rush for 100 yards and receive 100 yards. The previous man to do that: Billy Cannon, way back in 1961 when the Titans were the Houston Oilers.
- Through nine games, Raiders punter Shane Lechler is on pace to break Sammy Baugh’s record average for one season. Unfortunately for Shane, he’s on a team that gives him a lot of chances to lower his average.
- Connor Barth may have an odd name, but evidently he’s a damn good kicker. In Sunday’s loss to the Miami Dolphins, the Bucs kicker converted on three separate field goals from beyond 50 yards -- becoming just the fourth player in history to do it. The previous three were Morten Andersen, Neil Rackers and Kris Brown.
