Karabell Agrees: Cut Johnson

ESPN’s Eric Karabell loves big names. Whether it’s Brandon Jacobs, Marion Barber or Calvin Johnson, Karabell counsels patience when it comes to struggling high-round fantasy draft picks. While Karabell is certainly right that you shouldn’t overreact to a few bad games, this talent-trumps-all approach ignores that team situations can drastically change from season-to-season; it risks assembling a team that would win a championship two years ago rather than today.

Given this, it wasn’t altogether too surprising to see Karabell touting the possibility of Johnson emerging as a fantasy factor on the right team — after all, this was the same guy who ran for 1700 yards in consecutive season, right? Right? But with the news that LJ is apparently on the verge of signing with the Bengals, and will take a backseat to Cedric Benson, even Karabell is waiving the white flag on Johnson, admitting that it’s time to cut bait on the former fantasy stud.

Use your roster space on Justin Forsett, Jason Snelling, or even Bernard Scott first.
