Josh Pastner Continues To Impress, Make The Rest Of Us Look Lazy

Back on Monday, which in internet time is like three weeks ago, we mentioned that Memphis head coach Josh Pastner has that program back on the right track. Just a few months after losing most of their recruiting class and suffering the indignity of that whole SAT scandal, Pastner and the Tigers played the No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks right down to the wire last night.

↵They lost, sure, but against stars like KU frosh Xavier Henry—who’d originally planned on going to Memphis—the unranked Tigers proved they can battle with the best. Pastner, as previously noted, doesn’t sleep much, smoke, drink alcohol, or otherwise engage in behaviors that might connote weakness of mind or body. And at 31 years old, he’s one of the youngest coaches in the entire country.

↵Like Chuck Norris mixed with Doogie Howser, with a touch of Calipari. And he’s already got one of the best recruiting classes in the country for next year. But this year, it appears Pastner’s out to prove he can coach the guys he’s already got.

↵I think Kansas’ Bill Self put it best: “If I was a Memphis fan, I would be really pleased.”
