A week after returning to the starting lineup following a stint on the sidelines due to a concussion, Bills quarterback Trent Edwards is headed back to the bench. After Edwards went 18 of 28 for 185 yards with a touchdown and an interception last week, the team is reportedly going with former backup Ryan Fitzpatrick, who compiled a 2-1 record as the Bills starter, despite some underwhelming stats.
Bills To Start Fitzpatrick At Quarterback, Bring In Brohm
The Bills also signed former second round quarterback Brian Bohm off of Green Bay’s practice squad to bolster their depth at the position, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Brohm starred at Louisville in college, and was considered one of the top prospects his junior year, before a subpar senior campaign sent him tumbling into the second round. In Green Bay, Brohm was beat out by seventh-rounder Matt Flynn for the backup spot, and relegated to the practice squad.
Still, given the lack of options in Buffalo, it’s certainly possible that Brohm could find his way onto the field before long, and perhaps even resurrect his career. SBN’s Buffalo Rumblings gives the organization a thumbs up for the move, noting:
Brohm is a young, talented player with upside. This is a smart signing for the organization, though it’s much closer to a stab in the dark than an answer to the franchise’s longest-standing question mark.
