Week 11 Monday Morning Fantasy Wrap
Which Bandwagon makes you more comfortable: Brady Quinn or Bruce Gradkowski? Quinn threw three early touchdowns; ending the day with four and 304 yards, while Gradkowski out played Carson Palmer in the Raiders comeback win.
Personally, I’m not buying either. Matthew Stafford, on the other hand, showed some rookie moxy on Sunday that Detroit hasn’t see since Lee Iacocca left town. He isn’t a fantasy starter yet, but keep your eye on him; something tells me the longer he plays with Calvin Johnson, the better the chances are that this wasn’t his last five-touchdown game.
WAS @ DAL: Losers, losers everywhere! How many ways can a fantasy team slowly die? Ask Tony Romo. This game was good for defenses and that’s about it. Romo only threwfor 158 yards, while Washington was led in rushing and receiving by Rock Cartwright. Yes, fantasy superstar and former leading man on “All My Children” Rock Cartwright.
PHI @ CHI: I actually felt worse for Philadelphia than I was encouraged that Chicago was in the game late. Donovan McNabb was harassed all night, but LeSean McCoy consistently found holes on the ground while Charles Tillman was knocking out any ball he could reach. Meanwhile, Jay Cutler continues to be an overwhelming disappointment. He blew at least three guaranteed touchdowns by over throwing wide-open targets on Sunday night, and his weekly fourth quarter interception ended the game. Matt Forte hasn’t shown me anything this year, but a lot of that is on the Bears’ line and play calling. As you get near playoffs, it might seriously be time to consider dropping Cutler to waiver (if you haven’t already). On the other hand, McCoy is turning out to be just the man we waiver wire rats hoped for, add him (if you haven’t already).
SD @ DEN: I know Denver fans can still laugh into their beers when Cutler has a game like he did on Sunday night, but Kyle Orton has completely disappeared. Even before the sprained ankle he was struggling to be a viable fantasy quarterback, and now he’s not even worthy of a bench spot. Meanwhile, Philip Rivers didn’t have a big game but he’s about as consistent a producing quarterback as there is in the league for fantasy points. LaDainian Tomlinson has put together two good weeks in a row, too. It might be time for LT to get off your bench.
BUF @ JAX: Do you think Dick Jauron’s glad to be unemployed? All the complaining was about the offense, but Sunday proved that the problems are bigger than under center. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 297 yards, with 197 and his one touchdown going to Terrell Owens, and Buffalo still lost. Maurice Jones-Drew was held to only 66 yards on the ground, but he and Mike Sims-Walker both scored touchdowns and the Jags got just enough to beat the Bills. Terrell Owens is now relevant in Fantasy Football but I’m not sure I trust Ryan Fitzpatrick as more than a backup.
PIT @ KC: The scoreboard might have left Steelers’ fans depressed, but not fantasy owners in this game. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 398 yards and three touchdowns and lost to Matt Cassell’s 248 and two touchdowns. Chris Chambers was worth picking up off waivers last week when Dwayne Bowe was suspended, and he’s worth a look for your starting lineup with playoffs coming up. He emerged as the Chiefs lone big-play threat, essentially winning the game with a huge reception in overtime.
