With Kurt Warner out with a concussion, Matt Leinart will start today for the Cardinals against Vince Young and the Titans. This, of course, will be the first time the two college football legends have faced each other since the epic 2006 BCS Championship, in which each quarterback threw for 16 million yards, rushed for 7400 more, hit six home runs, scored a quadruple-double, and used the halftime break to devise an automobile that is powered by dirt and oxygen.
Matt Leinart Vs. Vince Young, As Simulated In Madden 10
↵Since then, both Leinart and Young have struggled, which makes this match-up as much as a sentimental relic as a game between the Cardinals and Titans. After learning that Leinart would start, I took the liberty of updating my Madden 10 roster, switching up the depth chart, and pitting the two teams in a simulation.
↵The results: Leinart was competent for the most part, throwing for 242 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw two embarrassingly bad interceptions. Young was less ambitious (17 attempts and no touchdowns), but largely flawless (14 completions and no interceptions). Leinart’s last-minute drive fell short, and the Titans won, 34-21.
↵How well can Madden 10 be trusted? Well, last week I took the injured Cedric Benson out of the lineup and pitted the Bengals against the Raiders. As simulated, the Bengals won by a surprisingly close margin, 27-23. The real-life result was even more surprising, as the Raiders won 20-17.
