Sunday, Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Hines Ward made some none-too-flattering comments about quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s head injury and decision to stay out of Pittsburgh’s overtime loss to the Ravens. Ward didn’t exactly say Big Ben should have played ... but he didn’t sound all that convinced that Roethlisberger needed to sit out, despite a team neurologist’s diagnosis. In a way, Ward’s comments were less about his teammate and more about the way football players are pressured to suit up even when it’s dangerous for them to do so.
Hines Ward Clarifies Comments On Big Ben
↵It’s now Monday, and Hines Ward totally wants to make sure that no one thinks he’s being mean to Ben Roethlisberger, who happens to have thrown Ward about half of Ward’s career touchdowns. Smart, undiluted thinking by Hines here. It’s almost as if Ward doesn’t have any serious long-term brain damage from playing professional football. Bully for him.
