Duke Guard Nolan Smith Suspended Two Games

Duke will be without guard Nolan Smith for the first two games of the regular season as he has been suspended for playing in a non-sanctioned summer league. He will miss the Blue Devils' Nov. 13 season opener against UNC Greensboro and their Nov. 16 game against Coastal Carolina.

More from Smith and coach Mike Krzyzewski following Tuesday night's 84-48 exhibition win over Findlay:

“He shouldn’t have done it,” Krzyzewski said. “The guys know. And this is what every basketball player has to know, don’t play in a game that has time and score (being kept), unless it’s a sanctioned game.”

“I was definitely disappointed in myself,” [Smith] said. “. . .With the rules the NCAA has, you’ve got to get permission as a college athlete. I definitely learned my lesson.”

Smith played in 33 games last season as a sophomore for the Blue Devils. He averaged 8.5 points per game and 1.7 assists. With Duke razor thin in the backcourt, Smith should be a vital part of their rotation this season.
