Twins Acquire SS Hardy From Brewers For CF Gomez

This from Yahoo! Sports:

The Minnesota Twins acquired shortstop J.J. Hardy(notes) on Friday, sending speedy outfielder Carlos Gomez(notes) to the Milwaukee Brewers in a trade.

SB Nation’s Twinkie Town is surprised by the trade, which makes sense given that Gomez, as you may recall, was the centerpiece of the Johan Santana trade back in 2008. Gomez never panned out in Minnesota, and a change of scenery may suit him well. Although he is known for his speed, Gomez made repeated base running gaffes, including a costly one in the AL Division Series this year, driving manager Ron Gardenhire crazy.

Hardy, on the other hand, had great years in 2007 and 2008, but regressed this year, warranting a trip to the minors in August. He too may benefit from having a new home.

Look out for more analysis of the trade from SB Nation’s Brew Crew Ball and Twinkie Town.
