Nebraska loses to Iowa State, then beats Oklahoma. Kansas State loses to Louisiana-Lafayette, then opens conference play 4-2. Kansas is in a tailspin; Missouri can’t beat Baylor. At this point, where a game involves a Big 12 North team, anything seems possible. Meaning we can’t discount any of the division championship scenarios outlined by K-State blog Bring on the Cats. With three weeks to play, the only certainty is that the Big 12 North contenders are battling for the right to be slaughtered by Texas.
Fighting for the Right to Be Slaughtered by Texas?
↵Or are they? As Doc Saturday points out, during the stretch run of each of the past three seasons, Texas has dropped a crucial game in which it was heavily favored. A heartbreaker in Lubbock cost them a shot at the national title in 2008, while stunning losses to Texas A&M burst their BCS bids in both ‘06 and ‘07.
↵But this Big 12 season looks an awful lot like 2005 -- a weak year for the conference that ended with a Vince Young-led juggernaut annihilating Colorado 70-3 in the Big 12 title game, sending the Longhorns to the Rose Bowl for a shot at the national championship. Texas fans are hoping that history repeats itself.
