Northwestern Shot 47 Threes Last Night

Wait wait wait. Really? Forty-seven?

↵Yes, Northwestern really attempted 47 three pointers in their blowout win over North Carolina A&T, making 20 of them to shatter the previous school record of 15 made and setting a Big Ten record.↵Indeed, that’s from SB Nation’s Northwestern blog, the excellently-named Sippin On Purple. So it seems that it really did happen. 47 times, they jacked up shots from 21 feet or more. When you consider the audacity that requires -- to just keep shooting and shooting and shooting -- it’s a pretty impressive feat. Maybe not the best strategy in the long run, but for one night, Northwestern Hoops was quite the spectacle.

↵Basketball purists may shudder at the thought of a team just chucking endless threes, but it’s simple, really: like that power forward that just tries to dunk every time he touches the ball, there’s something entertaining, if ignorant, about the team willing to live-and-die by the three.

↵Like basketball anarchy: you don’t have to endorse it, but it’s sure fun to watch from afar.

↵(Also: Northwestern’s star player is named Juice Thompson. One, awesome. Two, we can never have too many players named Juice...)
