76ers Snap 12-Game Losing Streak, Beat Warriors
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Thaddeus Young recorded game-highs of 26 points and a career-high 14 rebounds, and the Philadelphia 76ers won for the first time in nearly a month with a 117-101 rout of the Golden State Warriors.
The Sixers dropped 12 straight after an 86-84 win over Charlotte on November 18 had their record at 5-6 on the season. The losing streak was the longest for the franchise since a 13-game slide during the 1996-97 campaign.
The drubbing of the Warriors featured seven players in double figures and a staggering 59-26 rebounding advantage.
Allen Iverson shot 7-of-10 from the field for 20 points, while Jrue Holiday chipped in 15 points, seven boards and six assists to help stop the skid that has Philly sporting the second worst record in the Eastern Conference.
It was the first win of the season for Iverson, who began his season with Memphis before being released and signing with Philadelphia. He had been 0-6.
Corey Maggette's 24 points was tops on a sluggish Warriors squad that finished a 1-4 road trip in humiliating fashion. Golden State scored 11 points in the third quarter and had 20 turnovers in the setback.
Philadelphia used the first 12 minutes to jump out to a 36-24 lead behind 16- of-31 shooting from the field.
Young opened his 14-point second quarter with a pair of baskets, and the Sixers cruised into the locker room with a 71-57 advantage.
The Warriors went nearly seven minutes without a field goal in a game-sealing third quarter. Willie Green capped the hosts' 18-1 run with a pair of mid- range jumpers, as the margin swelled to 91-60 with under 3 1/2 minutes to play in the stanza.
The difference was 97-68 after the third, and the Sixers cruised to a much- needed victory by a convincing score.
Philadelphia, which had lost five in a row at Wachovia Center, ends its five- game homestand against Cleveland on Wednesday...The Warriors head back West to host San Antonio on Wednesday...Andre Iguodala, playing with bruised ribs, ended with 14 points and eight rebounds for the Sixers, who received 12 points and 13 boards from Samuel Dalembert and 14 points from Green. Elton Brand added 11 rebounds in a reserve role for the Sixers, who hit 49.5 percent from the field in the win...Anthony Randolph and Stephen Curry had 15 and 14 points, respectively, in defeat...The 71 points by the Sixers in the first half were the most by the team in any half this season.
