Donovan announcement set for Wedensday; Next stop, Everton?

Also file under: Why does everything attached to the Galaxy need to be such a freakin’ production?

So the announcement is set for tomorrow regarding Landon Donovan’s loan deal. It’s most likely Everton, and unless something goofy happens, he’ll report on or around Jan. 2 and be eligible immediately at Goodison Park.

The only thing that remains to be announced, so it would seem, is whether this is a full spring loan, whereby Donovan would be unable to return to the Galaxy until the summer transfer window, after the World Cup, or whether this loan will be shaped similar to last year’s short-term lease deal with Bayern Munich. In that case, Donovan would be available to the Toffees, most likely, through March before returning to sunny So Cal to start in time for the MLS season.

Meanwhile, here’s my question:

Why does everything on Planet Galaxy have to be such a song-and-dance, dog-and-pony, ring-around-the-rosie production? This thing tomorrow … it’s going to be done from the ESPN Zone at L.A. Live. From the Screening Room, if you really want to know. It’s same room where Lindsay Lohan once bit the head off a showpiece Jesus-shaped Cheeto.

OK, I made up that last part. Still, can’t they just make an announcement, discuss it like mature men and women and not get all caught up in the next opportunity to parade around the brand?

Click through to read the announcement, if you’re into that kind of thing.
