Remember how the Knicks were supposed to be the team most likely to steal away one of the big fish in the 2010 free agent swepstakes? They still could, but it’s looking further and further from a sure thing.
The Ghost Of Isiah Thomas Continues To Haunt The Knicks
↵What’s the problem? As Chris Sheridan reports, the only way the Knicks have enough cap room to sign a big free agent next year is if they renounce all their free agents, including David Lee and Al Harrington, two of their best players. Anyone want to guess why the Knicks find themselves in this predicament?
↵If you guessed Isiah Thomas, come on down and collect your prize! Isiah was the one who signed Jared Jeffries and Eddy Curry to large long-term contract, and now new GM Donnie Walsh has to move one of them in order to prevent having to let go of players who actually have some value.
↵Predictably, even a herculean effort by Walsh to move Jeffries and Curry isn’t working. Sheridan reports that the Knicks are interested in Tracy McGrady and his giant expiring contract, but won’t make the trade unless Jeffries is included. Apparently, that condition is “killing” the Knicks’ chances at McGrady and more cap room, since nobody wants Jeffries. Shocker!
↵On the bright side, if you’re a Knicks fan, you know who to blame when LeBron doesn’t come crawling your way.
