Panthers Dominate Favre, Vikings 26-7 On Sunday Night

Panthers’ blog Cat Scratch Reader enjoyed the Carolina win tonight. Though the story will be all about Matt Moore, Steve Smith and the Panther offense, it was the defense that really made this win happen.

There’s something about Sunday nights for the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota laid an egg in primetime for the 2nd-straight Sunday night. Two weeks ago it was Arizona, this week it was largely the same story — but the caliber of the opponent was just much worse says the Vikings’ blog Daily Norsemen:

Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) – Matt Moore threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns as Carolina held Minnesota to its lowest point total of the season in a 26-7 triumph.

Steve Smith had nine catches for 157 yards, including the go-ahead 42-yard score on the second play of the fourth quarter, for Carolina, which held a 397-237 yardage advantage. The Panthers also held the ball for nearly 38 minutes.

The win secured a postseason berth for Minnesota, now 11-2 on the season, and the Vikes can wrap up a second straight NFC North crown by downing the Panthers or if rival Green Bay falls to Pittsburgh on Sunday. A victory over Carolina combined with a Philadelphia loss to San Francisco over the weekend would clinch Minnesota a first-round bye in the upcoming conference playoffs.
