Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers is about to get a week jump on his offseason plans. Smith broke the radius bone in his right arm after making a 27-yard touchdown catch in the Panthers' 41-9 beatdown of the Giants on Sunday, according to the Charlotte Observer. Smith will reportedly undergo surgery on Monday, and hopes to be ready for the team's workouts next spring.
Panthers WR Steve Smith Breaks Arm, Will Miss Final Week
This marks the end of a disappointing year for Smith, who failed to break the 1000-yard mark for the first time since his injury-shortened 2004 season. To be fair, his struggles were more a reflection of quarterback Jake Delhomme’s inability to throw the ball to the right team than anything else. Smith had actually come on the past few weeks with former backup Matt Moore in the lineup, showing off the big-play ability that has made him one of the toughest covers in the NFL over the past five years.
