No. 3 Kentucky Blows Out Hartford, John Wall Sets School Assist Record

December 29, 2009 - Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - DeMarcus Cousins posted a double-double with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting and 12 rebounds, as third-ranked Kentucky clobbered an inferior Hartford squad, 104-61, at Rupp Arena.

Freshman point guard John Wall set a Kentucky single-game record with 16 assists, breaking the mark of 15 previously set by Travis Ford in 1993.

Darnell Dodson shot 6-of-10 from beyond the arc en route to a 19-point effort for the Wildcats (14-0), who received 16 points and five assists from Darius Miller. Patrick Patterson and Daniel Orton contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.

Joe Zeglinski scored 19 points and Milton Burton added 18 for the Hawks (2-10), who have dropped eight in a row. Morgan Sabia donated 16 points and six rebounds in defeat.

Kentucky scored the game’s first eight points, and led 23-8 after Dodson nailed a three-pointer and Orton hit a jumper. Sabia knocked down a trey to pull the Hawks within 28-18 with nine minutes left in the first half, but Kentucky closed out the frame on a 29-13 run to take a 57-31 advantage into the break.

The Wildcats began the second half on a 14-0 surge and coasted to the lopsided victory.

Wall had nine points and four boards...The Wildcats shot 60.3 percent from the floor while limiting Hartford to 37.9 percent...Kentucky hosts Louisville on Saturday...The Hawks visit St. Francis-PA on Saturday.
